Pain Is the Signal. Not Always the Source.
RoelsMethod™ is a unique, hands-on approach to pain relief developed by Michael Roels through more than 25 years of experience working with people experiencing acute and chronic pain.
Unlike approaches that focus primarily on where pain is felt, RoelsMethod™ explores the relationship between the brain, nervous system, muscles, and the body's protective responses.
Pain is an experience created by the brain in response to information from the body and nervous system. Sometimes, protective responses can persist even after the original injury has healed.
RoelsMethod™ works to identify muscular tension and protective patterns that may be contributing to discomfort, using gentle, focused techniques intended to encourage relaxation and a greater sense of safety.
Our guiding principle is simple: Where you feel pain is not always where the problem begins.

Every RoelsMethod™ session begins with listening, observation, and an understanding of your individual pain experience.
Rather than immediately treating the area that hurts, Michael evaluates movement, muscle tension, and possible protective patterns that may be contributing to your discomfort.
Using gentle, sustained pressure on specific muscles, combined with slow, intentional breathing, RoelsMethod™ encourages the nervous system to respond differently to sensations that may have become associated with pain or protection.
Throughout the session, movement and discomfort are reassessed to observe your body's response.
The goal is not to force muscles to release or simply mask symptoms. It is to support a change in how your body responds to tension, movement, and perceived threats.
One treatment can often provide valuable insight into whether RoelsMethod™ may be helpful for you.
Every person's experience is different, and results cannot be guaranteed.

After experiencing debilitating chronic pain following a serious automobile accident in 1997, Michael Roels began a personal journey to better understand pain and the body's responses to it.
With more than 25 years of hands-on experience helping thousands of people, Michael developed RoelsMethod™—an approach that looks beyond the location of pain to explore the nervous system and the body's protective patterns.
His belief is simple: Your pain originates in the brain. Where you feel it is NOT the problem.

In 1997, I survived a near-fatal head-on collision. What followed were over three years of chronic pain, PTSD, and depression, alongside a challenging journey through a medical system that offered little hope.
Then, amid all the turmoil, I experienced a miraculous healing that involved stepping away from traditional medical care and taking real action.
That moment changed everything.
Since then, I’ve devoted my life to helping others break free from pain using effective pain relief techniques.
My message is clear: "Your pain originates in the brain, where you feel it is NOT the problem."
As a licensed massage therapist with more than 17,000 hands-on sessions, I've developed RoelsMethod™—an approach to pain relief that looks beyond symptoms to identify patterns of muscle guarding and nervous system protection that may contribute to persistent pain.
On August 25, 2016 — 19 years to the day of my accident — I published my first book, Turning Pain Into Love. It narrates how divine guidance transformed my suffering into a lifelong blessing, demonstrating that the same power is accessible to everyone.
Today, as the Founder and CEO of the RoelsMethod™ Pain Relief Center in Winston-Salem, I continue to share this transformative work with those who need it most — "Because healing isn’t just possible... It’s your birthright."
